How long until I actually get paid?

We test your laptop first, usually within 1-3 working days of it arriving, then pay within 5 working days once your offer is confirmed. Payment runs go out at 4pm every working day. You can also take the money as credit on EpicDeals.co.za with 12% added, if what you actually want is the next laptop.

Which laptops do you buy?

Accepted Answer

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Apple silicon, in any condition including faulty. Business laptops (Lenovo ThinkPad, HP EliteBook, Dell Latitude), priced by processor generation. Gaming laptops from ASUS, Lenovo, HP, Acer, MSI, Dell and Alienware, priced by graphics card. And everyday Windows laptops from Intel 10th gen onward. Windows laptops need to be working, in Excellent or Good condition.

Why do you need my processor generation?

Because on a Windows laptop it is most of the price. Two ThinkPads that look identical can be four years apart inside, and the sticker on the palm rest rarely says which. It takes about thirty seconds to find under Settings, System, About, and the guide shows you exactly where.

Question 4

Do you buy broken laptops?

Accepted Answer

MacBooks, yes: cracked screens, liquid damage, dead batteries and ones that will not switch on. Windows laptops, not at the moment. We buy those working, in Excellent or Good condition, and we would rather say so here than let you find out at the last step.

Question 5

Can I sell a laptop that belongs to a company, or used to?

Accepted Answer

Only once it has been fully released. We cannot buy a laptop that is still owned or managed by a company, including anything enrolled in Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot or Apple Business Manager, or locked with a company BIOS password. The company has to release it completely before you send it: confirm it is yours to sell, remove it from its device management and clear any BIOS password. Asset tags and engraved names are fine. Selling ten or more on behalf of the company? Use the business route.

Must I bring my laptop to you?

Accepted Answer

No, and there is nowhere to bring it. We send a courier to you anywhere in South Africa, free: 1 working day from Johannesburg or Pretoria, 2 working days from other major cities. The warehouse is not open to the public, which is why the collection costs you nothing.

What happens to my files?

Accepted Answer

Every laptop is wiped before it goes anywhere. Wipe it yourself first anyway: back up, sign out of your Microsoft or Apple account, then reset. On Windows that is Reset this PC with Remove everything; on a MacBook it is Erase All Content and Settings. The guide walks through both.

Question 8

Someone on Marketplace offered me more. Should I take it?

Accepted Answer

Maybe. If they arrive, if they pay, and if the meeting goes the way meetings with strangers holding your laptop are supposed to go. Our offer is lower than the best-case private sale on purpose: you are paid for certainty, a free courier and not meeting anyone. What we will not do is quote a good price and find a mysterious fault once the laptop is in our building.

What about my iMac, iPhone or PlayStation?
